Integrated in the project Mátria – An Opera for the Douro region, the concert “Banda à Varanda” (Band on the Balcony), was comprised by several marching bands of the Trás-os-Montes region (Portugal), more precisely the Banda de Mateus, Banda da Portela, Banda de São Mamede de Ribatua e Orquestra de Sopros do Conservatório Regional de Música de Vila Real. The musicians were diffused throughout the various balconies of the city centre of Vila Real, were they played original music allied with theatrical elements.
This concert is in the core of the cultural program of Vila Real Capital da Cultura do Eixo Atlântico 2016 and integrated in the project Mátria, being the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD) its main promoter. The principal goal is the creation of an ópera based on the work of the Portuguese writer Miguel Torga.
